Hi Folks,
I know you are anxious to have some news on your kids and even though I cannot individualize my message this early I can tell you we are off to a really great start.
Most of the administrative details are now completed; we had a few who needed physicals, a few that did not get their Internet forms completed etc. All in all we had very few hiccups in the process and we are moving according to the training schedule.
Today was the first day of classes and I think we had a pretty good case of culture shock with the amount of homework that is expected for tomorrow. Typically I take the first week of supervision in CQ's (study time) so I will have a real good idea if we are on task and completing our work in not only a timely fashion but also with a true sense of purpose and not just getting by with a minimal amount of effort. Your youngsters will find we are very serious about developing strong study skills and the body of work that will be assigned and the quality of work expected will reinforce this mentality.
I have been favorably impressed in how quickly most have adapted to our way of life. Life at WEWO is high speed-low drag. I told the kids last night I even go to the bathroom fast so we need to pick up the pace. Last night after a short academic assembly where we covered the parameters of the academic expectation I taught the kids extended push ups. Now for the uninformed this particular form of push up is at best very difficult. I use this teaching opportunity to emphasize that we do not use the word "can't and quit". The sooner we can eliminate this form of "excuse" from our vocabulary and thinking the quicker we can achieve at a higher level in everything we do.
We had a procession by the "ROCK" and got our first taste of the "magic dust", it really works. Magic dust just takes time and constantly hearing the same message of accountability and personal responsibility.
I know you are ready for the first phone call home. Hat brass study is ongoing and unless we hit a snag will have a large number of kids ready to take this test by the weekend. Upon accomplishing this first hurdle the kids can then call home. I will push everyone hard to make this happens as quickly as possible.
You will be hearing from all the teachers on a weekly basis on your students progress in their class and I will do a weekly update to you as well on all the activity of Camp Lead.
Thanks for sharing your precious gift with us and we will do our very best to assist your child in all the growth opportunities we can.
Do not hesitate to call me if you have a question or concern. If I don't answer I am either in a meeting or a classroom and I promise to call back asap.
Have a great week. remember EVERYDAY IS LIKE CHRISTMAS.

Sometimes old habits are hard to break and even though school is out I still had some thoughts on this past year and an outlook for the future to share with you.
For those who were able to travel to graduation I thank you for your support; the weekend was fabulous and if you could take away the huge rains early in the week that drove us inside for the ceremonies everything was about perfect.
Without a doubt the hardest time in a Principal's life is shaking hands and hugging those kids as they walk across the stage for the final time. There are dreams and expectations coupled with the uncertainty of the unknown. This particular group of graduating seniors will be very successful in the years to come; there is a real solid foundation in these kids and despite all the trials and tribulations that we all have to endure sometimes in our lives I think they are prepared to face life's many challenges.
Pam will be emailing grades this coming week; with a few exceptions we performed admirably. One of our great challenges is maintaining focus through the last weeks of school. I think it must be global warming and I think this phenomenon has been around for years as I distinctly remember my days at WMA and I had a difficult time staying on task when the weather finally changed. The bulk of the credit goes to this wonderful faculty for staying the course and keeping the classes alive with new and challenging information.
I would love to share with you all of the wonderful accomplishments of this great group of kids; from losing the sense of entitlement to the growth in their leadership and personal responsibility. As I have shared with you on many occasions these kids are used to structure and working hard; don't weaken if you hold their "feet to the fire" they will indeed perform at a high level.
We just received what I think is our final acceptance letter for our seniors and their pursuit of their college choice. I am listing all of the colleges and universities where our kids have been accepted; there will be many family decisions to be made before the final destination is clear but I think you will find this to be a very impressive list of institutions of higher learning.

We are just two weeks away from Camp Lead and a very busy summer of academics and fun in the sun. We will have a number of "old boys" with us this summer so that always makes for some familiar faces and some great stories from the past school year. Should you need an option this summer for your child give me a shout.
My very best to everyone and I cannot (notice I did not use the word "can't") tell you how much I enjoyed this past year with your kids. If I can ever help I am a phone call away.

Hi Folks,
By the time you receive this letter we will be "4 days and a wake up" to the closing of the school year.
This past week we focused on final exam preparation and any work that needed to be completed. I was very proud of all the kids and the teachers with the focus and attention of everyone. With the prospect of school coming to a close, summer jobs and summer fun looming on the horizon this preparation can be a daunting task. To every ones credit this process has gone very smoothly.
Our seniors have attended about every banquet and celebration known to man, it seems every evening has been filled with some form of dinner in recognition of this wonderful accomplishment. This group of seniors has been a very pleasant group to work with all year but particularly these past few weeks as things get pretty hectic in their lives.
In reflecting on our academic year I cannot help but mention the tremendous growth both academically and personally I have witnessed from our kids. We have had our struggles and we have had some wonderful success stories but most importantly we learned to eliminate excuses from our vocabulary and hold ourselves accountable. If we learned nothing more this tenet will play huge dividends later in life.
In the past few weeks I have had several parents ask me how much of the structure and the discipline these kids will retain upon returning to their homes. There is no specific answer to this question but there are some very simple steps you can utilize to assure the "magic dust" is still there. Our kids clearly understand expectations, do not waiver from this proposition. Our kids CAN accomplish anything, do not accept excuses for poor performance either socially or in the family structure. Hold them accountable and they will perform beautifully. Poor associations can lead to poor decisions and my firm belief that "idle time is the devil's workshop"; these youngsters are accustomed to long days, organization and finishing a task.
I have recently ordered a special shipment of "Magic Dust". Should any of you need an overnight delivery of this wonderful potion I can and will send it immediately. In other words I am still available to you if needed; summer time is just like sleep it is "overrated".
To our senior parents I have a little gift for all of these outstanding kids. I wish I were wealthy and I would grant their every wish but I think it is more important that they go out and get their hands dirty, use some sweat equity and make their mark in the world. I will present all the Seniors with this small token of my appreciation for their efforts, love and loyalty this coming Thursday evening. I wish I could do more.
Camp Lead is now just around the corner; it looks like a very good group of kids and I am excited to watch their progress throughout the course of the summer. I have vowed to play paintball this summer with the kids; I may need to up my life insurance. Once again this summer we are offering some really dynamic courses that are not in the regular curriculum. If you are still looking for some growth opportunities this summer you might want to keep this option in mind. Check out the website for more information.
I will look forward to seeing most of these kids back in the fall but some will not return. To these parents thanks for the opportunity to work with your precious gift. Wentworth does not forget it's own. If we can help in any manner in the future you all have my phone number.
This will be my last formal communication to you until Camp Lead begins on June 12; make sure and catch the website this summer and I will keep you updated on lots of fun and educational and personal growth. Yes, all the new kids will have nicknames too. And no I never use the same nickname twice so everyone is an original.
Please keep in touch with us and share your success stories.
Always a Dragon,

Hi Folks,
We are 14 days and a wake up to the end of the school year.
I am really excited for our kids as we approach the prep week for final exams. I have seen a new energy as we get closer to the end. This past week has been very productive for our kids and I am very pleased with the teachers ability to keep the kids totally focused. The sense of urgency of being prepared for finals and completing a great body of work is in our favor and I would expect great things from our kids these last two weeks.
Last night was the senior banquet in Kansas City at the Plaza Hilton. We traveled in style in our dress blues and a limousine ride for all to dinner and senior awards and presentations.
I really enjoy this night as it is really the last formal time I can address all the seniors and share a few tidbits about each one. There were many tears of joy and sorrow as the harsh reality of graduation and the real world is now well within their grasp.
I wish you all could have been a mouse in the corner to hear of their accomplishments and escapades over the past year. I pride myself in knowing most of what is going on during the days but I found out some very interesting things last night. I think half the fun is the things we don't know as long as it does not lead to problems.
My salute to these seniors was very simple; they rose to the occasion, overcame adversity and are better people today and I sincerely believe that all of them have the tools and the wherewith all to go conquer the world. You will read some great things about these fabulous kids in the future and I know without a doubt that the sacrifices you made for your children was money well spent.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the awards assembly and then graduation the following day. Travel safe and come enjoy some incredible success stories of these Wentworth cadets.
Everyday is a Dragon Day!
